The Irish Open Go Championship took place in the usual venue of the Teachers’ Club, Parnell Square, on March 5th and 6th.
The competition was won by Yung Chen, a Chinese student living in Dublin. Chen entered at 1k, which placed him below the bar, but managed to win all his games, finishing on 4 McMahon points, a clear point ahead of D.K Kim (2d).
The general concensus after the tournament was that Chen is most definitely not a 1 kyu, and is probably more like 2 dan.
Other notable results were Ian Davis finishing in 7th place, with 5 wins from 5, having beaten two dan players on the way, and Michael Thai also finishing on 5/5.
