Steve (white) beat Claas by 16.5 points yesterday evening to get his 2007 Championship off to a belated but winning start.

The game could have been much closer, as Steve made a simple error in answering a ko threat deep in byo-yomi. However, Claas failed to spot the mistake, and Steve corrected it a few moves later.

This result is reflected in the 2007 Championship table.
