The IGA (Irish Go Association) is delighted to invite everybody to our very latest tournament, which is sponsored by Beck’s and by the Pembroke Bar and Restaurant.
The Beck’s-Pembroke Open Tournament will span over 5 weeks of Wednesdays, beginning on the 1st of November 2006 at 8h30PM.
The tournament is handicap-based and is opened to players of all levels. It would be ideal for there to be sixteen players in the tournament.
The tournament will follow a double knockout format, that is:
- Winners of week one will play a knockout, while losers of week one will play a separate knockout.
- The final will consist in the winners of each knockout playing each other.
From the above, every entrant is guaranteed to play at least week 1 and 2 of the tournament.
The entry fee is 10 Euro. Almost all of the entry money will go to prizes for winners and semifinalists.
Beck’s will provide a free keg of beer on the night of the final, while the Pembroke has kindly offered a trophy engraved with the name of the winner.
During the tournament, Olivier Deme will introduce newcomers to the game of go by playing teaching games on 9×9 boards. So if you know someone who could be interested in go, don’t forget to let him know about this!
This is a fantastic opportunity to participate in an exciting, friendly and competitive go event. We hope to see you all there on the 1st of November at 8h30PM!
