Entries are now open for the 2023 National Championships, which will run through the first three months of the year. To enter, email the secretary. There is no charge to play in the tournament, but membership of the Irish Go Association is required. The deadline for entries is January 1st, and the Qualifiers will start in the second week of January.

Eligibility

To enter, you must either be an Irish citizen, or have been legally resident in Ireland for at least two years prior to the tournament.

Format

The National Championships is comprised of three stages: Qualifiers, Top 8, and Championship.

Qualifiers

Qualifiers are played online. The Qualifiers follow a double-elimination format, with entrants seeded according to their finishing position in the 2022 Championship, then by EGF rating. The Qualifiers are an EGF class D tournament.

Top 8

The four best-placed players in the 2022 Championship receive automatic invitation to the Top 8. The remaining places are filled from the top finishers in the 2023 Qualifiers. The Top 8 will be played across the board, in Dublin, venue and date (late February or early March) to be confirmed. The Top 8 is also a double-elimination and will be EGF class A.

Championship

The two bracket winners in the Top 8 advance to the Championship, a best-of-three series. The Championship may be played online or in person, according to the wishes of the two players involved. The winner of the series is awarded the title of Irish Champion. The Championship will be either EGF Class A (face-to-face) or Class D (online).

WAGC Points

WAGC points are awarded to the Top 8 finishers in the National Championships.
