Belfast Open

This year’s Belfast Open will be a 5 round Class B event. It’s going to take place in the last weekend of August (27/28th), in the usual venue in South Belfast. For full information see the tournament page.

30 May – James in Japan

James Hutchinson had an impressive run at the World Amateur Championship. He beat Denmark, Portugal, Argentina, and Brazil – finishing with 4 wins out of 8. This is a very creditable result, giving Ireland a position of 36th place in the competition. See IGF and Ranka reports

Cork’s Justyna Kleczar has won the 2011 Galway Open, this keeping the title in the hands of Poland. She brushed aside all opposition with a perfect 4/4. 10 May – Ireland lose to Slovakia

Ireland lost another game in the Pandanet Team Championship tonight by 1-3. However, the pride of Cork, Rory Wales, managed to put a shine on an otherwise dark night as he crushed another dan player. This board point should see us hold on to 8th place, 1 above our seeding.
